In order to properly understand the density of the Eixample urban grid, and its over population, Villarroel was analyzed primarily in section rather than in plan. Looking at different balconies, entrances, walkways, and the permeability of materials, we sought to map two main elements: visual and physical permeability. In further analysis of our mapping and the building itself, nearly all visual permeability arises in the inner courtyard, where most students interact publicly during class. Physical permeability is kept two two main entrances: the private parking garage and the gate entrance at the beginning at the courtyard. The final mapping seeks to split the sections on an axis, opening up the building through the courtyard to show the left and right sides of the sections. Constructed of 26 precast concrete panels, the main memorial structure surrounds an inaccessible sky courtyard reserved for the memory of those lost. Surrounding the main memorial is 26 solitary time capsules, each with a light projected towards the base of the main memorial.
